Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye went to Standing Rock recently and met with local Navajo demonstrators or ‘water protectors’ who have a camp in ground zero,”Good Evening, We put the Dine flag up on our first visit to Standing Rock. The soil was rocky but dug deep enough,” wrote Begaye on facebook. “On the latest visit we changed out the flag because the first was tattered. Always good to see Chairman Archambault and express our support and to make sure our people at the camp are safe… Standing for the right things is never wrong. Sleep well.”

Hundreds of people from different tribes are in Standing Rock protesting the oil pipeline. The Navajo President encouraged President Obama to intervene at the Standing Rock where protestors were sprayed with water in freezing temperatures and hit with rubber bullets.
